5k, 3k, grandparents and friends

This is going to be a long post! We did so much on Saturday that it makes me exhausted just thinking about it.

Saturday started out with the James Glenn summer kick-off fun run. I was running the 5K while Thomas, Melissa and Jonathan walked the 3K while pushing the boys in strollers. This is the 19th and final year for this fun run. Thomas ran in the very 1st run so we saw it as only fitting that he participate in the very last one. We have also participated in the fun run back in 2006 and it was such a fun event I have been wanting to do it again but just hadn't had a chance until this year. The 5K started at 8 am and since Thomas picked up all of our race packets the day before we didn't show up till just before the race started. That was really nice. I ran the 5K and then ran back to met up with the rest and finish walking with them. So we all crossed the finish run together. It was such a nice day for the event. It was very cloudy with a nice breeze it felt really nice outside. I finished the run 4th in my age bracket, too bad they only give medals for the 1st 3 finishers in each age bracket. I did beat my best 5K time though by finishing it in 27 minutes and 5 seconds.

This is the starting line

The boys getting ready for their 3K walk

Thomas tried to get a picture of me running the 5K. I'm back there in the pink shirt.

Thomas clicked a picture as I passed them heading to the finish line. I have a goofy look on my face because I'm trying to get Eli's attention.

Eli loves his balloon. He got it at the post race party.

Eli saw a couple of kids sitting on the ground at the post race party and decided he wanted to join them so he sat down near them. He kept getting up and scooting closer to the boy.

Eli wanted to eat Wheaties just like the 2 other kids.

The mom of the 2 kids came over and sat down and saw everyone eating Wheaties and asked Eli if he would go get her some too. Sure enough Eli went over to the table to get her a box.

Eli handed the box to the lady, he was such a gentleman!

Eli really liked Wheaties

He liked them so much he tried to share them with Caleb, he also tried to feed me some too a few times.

Caleb and Eli were really interested in my shoe for some reason

Sweet cousins!

A nice group photo of us.

As we were heading to the car Eli spoted the fire truck and wanted to go over and see it. The fire people were so nice. They gave Eli and Caleb a fireman's hat and then let them sit in the truck. Eli just loved it!

Caleb's turn!

When Thomas, Eli and I finally left the post race party we headed over to Thomas' parents house to visit with them. Gandpa had made some wooden blocks for Eli to play with and Eli had a blast stacking them up and knocking them down.

After visiting with grandma and grandpa we made our way back home. Eli fell asleep in the car because traffic was so bad through Houston it took us an hour and a half when it normally takes less then an hour to get home. Of course Eli woke up as soon as we got on Riley Fuzzel I decided that I would try driving around a little more to see if I could get him to fall back to sleep but the road I chose to drive on had a bunch of tractor doing construction so of course this pearked Eli right up. We decided to put Eli in his crib anyways when we got home. He stayed in his crib for a little over an hour. I don't know if he slept anymore but he was quiet and would only occasionally make quite noise so at least he was resting.

After resting for a couple of hours we loaded up again and headed to Waller. A couple of friends of mine turned 30 a week apart and their family was holding a joint 30th Birthday. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed visiting with friends I don't get to see very often.

Eli had to take the telephone in the car with us on the way to Waller. I wonder who was calling...

Eli stole a water bottle from under the table.

Thomas and Eli, they were going back outside to play on the playground. Eli was having a blast playing on the playground. The birthday party was held at Waller Baptist Church which is the church I grew up in and my parents still go to, so Eli has been there several times and he knew right where to go to get to the playground.

We finally got home around 8:30. Eli was so tired, he fell asleep in the car on the way home. He barely woke up when I changed him into his night clothes and put him to bed. Thomas and I went to bed shortly after putting Eli to bed. We kept forgeting it was only Saturday and we still had one more day in our weekend. We did so much on Saturday it felt like we had the whole weekend in one day. It was a really fun day filled with lots of family and friends!

berry picking!

Today I got early to go to the gym before my boys got up. I was running a little late and trying to get out of the house. As I was going into the kitchen to get my water I saw a big ugly hairy brown spider. I thought to myself that I need to kill it because I don't want it in my house and chance it biting Eli. I hate spiders and the thought of squashing it with a paper towel and feeling the spider squished just grossed me out. So I grabbed Eli's broom and decided to kill it with that. Before I hit it with the broom I noticed something hanging from its leg and just assumed it was a "dust bunny" of some sort. Boy was I wrong, when I hit that spider with the broom hundreds of baby spiders went all over the floor. By this time I was freaking out, I decided not to wake Thomas up since I thought having a grumpy husband would be worse then the baby spiders all over the floor. Luckly most of the babies came out dead. I was proud of myself for cleaning up all the spiders and killing the big mama spider with out waking my husband. I finally made it to the gym and had a good work out. Ever since I watched Charlotte's Web as I child I have always been scared of killing a spider with an egg sack or having an egg sack in my house so pretty much one of my worst fears came true this morning and I think I handled it well!

After the gym I came home and got Eli and I ready to make a trip down to League City to go pick strawberries with Melissa, Caleb and Katy. Once we got down there Melissa need to feed Caleb lunch, since he just woke up so I gave Eli a snack. I gave Eli veggie chips where instead of eating them he would stack them then restack them in another location. After the boys ate we decided we would head to Chick-fil-a for lunch. The boys were very well behaved and allowed us girls to visit. Finally we headed out to Froberg farm to pick Strawberries. It was warm but we had a blast! Caleb even rode with Eli in the wagon for about 20 minutes.

Caleb chillin in his cool hat

Eli really liked the bucket

Strawberries and Keys. Eli got ahold of Melissa's keys when wee got to the farm and would not let them go. He was holding them for safe keeping in the bucket.

Eli is eating one of the berries I out in the bucket. I have no idea how many he ate while we were picking but by the time we left the farm he was covered in berry juice.

At first i couldn't get Eli out of the wagon to pick strawberries but he found out that he could pick some from the wagon.

He was doing a good job picking berries from the wagon

He finally decided to get out of the wagon and carry the bucket.

The bucket was almost as big as him

Cute boy in a strawberry patch!

Eli and Aunt Melissa picking berries

A strange berry I found

Eli can multitask, He can hold on to keys and pick strawberries at the same time.

Caleb wanted to take a turn pulling the wagon

Eli was really getting into picking the strawberries. He was picking ever berry he saw. When I explained to him to only pick the red ones he did just that. He's such a smart guy!

Eli decided to get lazy and sit on the bucket while picking

Had to get another picture of him picking another strawberry

Caleb just chilling with aunt Katy!

We had so much fun at the farm and boys really seemed to enjoy it. The farm is located right next to rail road tracks and while we were checking out a train went by. Eli was so excited to be so close to a cho-cho train. Then we headed back to Melissa's house. After the boys had a bit of a nap we went out side to wait for Jonathan to get home and Thomas to get there too. While we waited we played with bubbles. Aunt Katy taught Eli how to "blow" bubbles. It was so cute, I have a bubbly blower that you push a button and a little fan blows the bubbles. Aunt Katy showed Eli how to dip the wand into the bubble solution and push the button to get the bubbles.

Thomas finally go to Melissa and Jonathan's house after we put the boys to bed. We ordered some yummy pizza with angel food cake topped with strawberries (of course) and us "kids" (Thomas, Melissa and Katy are siblings) got to visit for awhile before Katy had to go home and the rest of us couldn't keep our eyes open. It was such a fun but exhausting day but we had to get up early the next morning to go do a fun run!

More Zoo Fun!

Today we met up with a few friends at the zoo. I think every school in the Houston area had the same idea. There were so many field trips there that a couple of our friends could not find parking and gave up and went back home. Even though the zoo was packed we all had a great time. The kids were so well behaved too.

Waiting on our friends, traffic and parking were a booger!

For lunch we all just brought snacks for the kids to share. They ended up with a pretty good spread but were still stealing each others food even though they all had the same things in front of them

Disobedience but funny!

We were getting Eli ready for bed and after he brushed his teeth I told him to get his blanky and sippy and get on the couch with daddy for story time and prayers. He got his blanky and sippy and laid on the floor. Every time I would tell him to get up on the couch he would shake his head no and tell me something in Eli gibberish. It was really funny and I finally went and got the camera to record some of the interaction.

Dog Bowls

Today at the gym Eli and I ran into some friends who were going to the park after they worked out and invited us to join them. Since Eli and I didn't have any other plans we decided to join them later that morning. But first we went over to Market Street to get a smoothie. Eli and I split a yummy smoothie and enjoyed some time running around the park there. After the smoothie we headed over to Bear Branch park to play. We met up with our friends. Eli and Benjamin had a great time playing in the Dog water bowl at the park. If you pushed a button the water would come out and fill the bowl up. Eli and Ben would take turns pushing the button. They would also splash in the water and try drinking from the water too. They were completely soaked by the time we left the park. At least they had a good time and were playing well together.

After the park Eli and I met up with Thomas at Luby's for lunch. Eli was such a good little eater today. He ate his food without any fight or prompting from me, including the green beans. We had a great lunch and then Eli and I headed home for a nap and Thomas went on to work.

After Eli's nap I gave Eli his normal after nap snack of a banana. I also got myself a snack of grape tomatoes. We sat down to enjoy our snack and Eli decided he wanted some of my tomatoes. I have given him tomatoes before and he spit them out so I was sure that is what he would do this time too but no he wanted more! He ended up eating all of my tomatoes and hardly any of his banana.

This evening we went to our friends house for home group. They have 2 dogs which they kept locked in their crate. These dogs were so good that I walked by them several before I even knew they were there. At one point in the evening I was half way watching Eli and I saw him in the door way where the dogs were. I assumed he was trying to touch the dogs so i yelled at him to keep his hands away from the dogs. Then is dawned on me what he was doing. Eli had a little play tea cup and was dipping it in the dogs water dish and then drinking it! Ewwwwww!!!!!! I couldn't wait to get him home to brush his teeth. Eli is such a boy!
