Yesterday was Thomas' 30th birthday! And for his birthday Eli slept in till 7:10. Which is wonderful because I went to the gym real early that morning and made it back before either of my boys were up. Eli and I fixed Thomas sticky buns and skillet hash for his breakfast meal.
Thomas' birthday breakfast
Eli decided to help daddy eat his breakfast
After breakfast we all loaded up and went to Huntsville to visit the Sam Houston Campus and get some of our favorite BBQ at McKenzie's. (yes we know they have a location in Conore but we wanted to make a day out of it in Huntsville). Ahh, the memories of SHSU. I had forgotten how steep the hill was! But we made it up the hill.
Had to show Eli the fountain
Tried to get a picture with the Sam Houston statue but he was a bit overwhelmed
Had to get Thomas a coffee at the campus coffee shop and Eli some Sun chips
Showed Eli Old Main
And then the prayer garden by Austin hall
Eli wasn't into the college much. I think all the people were a bit much for him so we decded to take him to one of our favorite places in Huntsville the duck pond by the museum. There where a ton of turtles sitting on the edge of the pond. These turtles were not scared of us at all! We got real close to them before they jumped in. I think some of them would let up touch them if we tried!
After the pond we went to go have lunch at McKenzie's BBQ. When we drove over to the restaurant there was a sign on the door saying they were closed because they were moving and would reopen at their new location on April 1st. So we drove over to the new location and it was not open either! No BBQ for us that day! So we over to Country Inn III for lunch and had a very yummy lunch even if it wasn't the BBQ we wanted.
Eli dipping corn nuggets in Ranch. This is the 1st time he has ever had ranch.
He loved it!
On the way home from Huntsville Eli learned a new skill! He can now use his fingers to make noises with his lips, but instead of using one finger he uses two. Soon after Eli passed out from our fun filled day in Huntsville. Thomas said it was a wonderful birthday spending time with his family. But I then reviled my birthday surprise for Thomas, I had arranged for my mom to come up and babysit while we went to dinner and bowling.
We had reservations at Americas at 7. It was a wonderful meal and a lovely evening. After dinner we decided to take a walk on the waterway to work off some of the yummy steak. Then we head to Main Event to go bowling but we never made it. We blew a tire on the way! Thomas got the tire changed pretty quick and with out to much problems.
(we also discovered that our flash on the camera broke)
When we got back in the car and Thomas tried to start the car and nothing happened! After trying a few things and calling some people to see if they knew what was up we called a tow truck. 45 minutes later the tow truck showed up and we found out it was just a dead battery. After that we decided to call it a night. We are actually very happy on how the events of the night played out. We are so thankful and praise God that the blow out happened with Thomas there and Eli not. Could you imagine me on the the side of 45 with a flat tire and having to deal with Eli too! Thank you Father for taking care of your children! And thank you Father for Thomas and the 30 years he has been on this earth!
